Student Leadership Record Info

Thank you for participating in the Student Leadership Record Program. The Student Leadership Record (SLR) is a record of the extra-curricular activities and accomplishments that you participate in during your time at Schoolcraft College. Some advantages to participating in the Student Leadership Record Program are:

•You will have a record of all of your extra-curricular activities in one comprehensive document.
•Hours of involvement and volunteering will be charted.
•You will be able to receive professional official copies to include in your portfolio, resume or however you wish to use it.

What type of activities can be submitted?

There are 8 extra-curricular activities that can be submitted for the Student Leadership Record which are membership, leadership, athletics, on-campus employment, awards and honors, community service, professional conferences or workshops and Artistic/Creative Endeavors. Details of each are as follows:

Membership: Participation in a Student Organization.

Leadership: Positions of leadership in a Student Organization or Athletic Team including officer positions or a team captain.

Athletics: Participation on an Athletic Team.

On-Campus Employment: On-campus work experience which includes work study positions.

Awards and Honors: Awards and honors given through a college department, office or national organization. Examples include Student employee of the year award, departmental scholarships, deans list and many more.

Community Service: Participating in volunteer work that benefits the community. Examples of this are participating at St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen, Red Wagon Project, Make a Difference Day.

Professional Conferences and Workshops: Conferences attended through a college department, office or registered student organization.

Artistic/Creative Endeavors: Includes performance or participating with activities involving artistic expression. Examples of this include theater productions, musical concerts, art exhibits.

What is the difference between volunteering and community service?

Volunteering is defined as performing a service voluntarily. Community service is identified as using nonprofit, governmental, and community based organizations to improve the quality of life for community residents, animals, or the environment or to solve particular problems related to their needs.

How do I complete the forms?

For each activity that you participate in, simply follow steps 1-5 indicated on the Student Leadership Record Form.

Activity Type which is simply choosing what type of activity was participated in.

Step 3:

Details of the Activity. If it is any of the activities with the exception of community service, fill out section 1. For community service, fill out section 2.

Step 4:

Verification from an Advisor or Coach.

Step 5:

Return the form to Student Activities either by mail or dropping it off to the office.

Hours of participation in an organization can also be documented on the Student Leadership Record. This includes both hours in meetings and at events. Complete the Student Organization Participation Form and follow steps 1-3.

Fill out the date the participation occurred on, whether it was a meeting or event, the meeting or event title (i.e. General Meeting, Membership Orientation), name of organization and total hours of participation. Finally, an advisor has to initial for verification.

Step 3:

Return the form to Student Activities either by mail or dropping it off to the office.

Do I have to always fill out my name, student number, address, phone number and email address on each form?

No. Once you have submitted your first copy, you will only need to fill out your name and student number unless your information changes.

When should forms be completed and submitted?

Student Development Record forms can be submitted at any time as long as the activity is verified. The Student Organization Participation Forms need to be completed within 2 weeks of the end of the semester of participation.

How do I get a copy of the Student Leadership Record?

Fill out the Student Leadership Record Request Form and a copy will be processed within 5 business days. Copies can either be picked up in Student Activities or mailed to the address registered on your Student Leadership Record Form.
